Professional Information
Helga Palm began her real estate career in l969 as leasing manager for industrial and office buildings for a major Toronto developer; responsibilities included space planning and the negotiating of leases and construction contracts. After a few years, she was made general manager of income-producing properties.
In 1973, Mrs. Palm obtained her accreditation as a Fellow of the Real Estate Institute of Canada, and in l978 became a licensed I.C. & I. real estate broker. She joined a brokerage firm and opened that firm's industrial real estate division, specializing in the industrial leasing market and also began syndicating newly-developed industrial properties. In 1983, she became the first Canadian woman admitted to the prestigious, Washington-based Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), an association of 2095 members worldwide. In 1987 and 1988, she served a two-year term as president of SIOR's Canadian chapter. Over the years, Helga Palm has spearheaded the development of single and multi-tenant industrial buildings for both investors and users, from initial conception and site selection to finished turnkey operation.
Prior to joining J.J. Barnicke Limited, Helga Palm operated her own brokerage firm and for the last nineteen years concentrated in the sale of investments (i.e. leased industrial and office buildings, shopping centers, hotels and apartment buildings) to local and offshore investors (primarily from Europe).
Helga Palm holds membership in the Canadian Real Estate Association, the Toronto Real Estate Board, the Industrial Commercial and Investment Council of Canada and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR).
